The Time Is Now

As a new employee, one woman shared with me that on her second day at her new job, she didn't feel so supported. I asked why? She explained how two female employees walked up and started accusing her of leaving supplies in the adjacent aisle. She was confused. She explained she didn't know what they were talking about and that she did not leave anything in the aisle. She had been assigned another area, by her manager, away from where this had happened. The two responded with a stern comment about letting her manager know not to leave things in the aisle and another comment about her being "new". They were accusatory and condescending evidently. Where was the woman to woman support? Where was the professionalism?
I'm bringing this to light because it needs to be. Some women in business, lack support, kindness and being polite. I've been involved in customer service in retail, major hotels and my own business for 16 years and these traits are being neglected. It's not what you say but how you say it. Set an example. Be the change. Treat people how you want to be treated. The younger generations are watching and learning from you.

Tracey,
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure reading your post. Thank you for sharing. We definitely need more conversations like this one and all it takes is one person to start the conversation. ^_^
